In Conversation: Tomasz Donocik and Castro Smith
Jewellers Castro Smith and Tomasz Donocik discuss their very different paths into the industry with curator and writer, Janice Hosegood.
Castro Smith started his training as a painter and printmaker, a style that comes through in his engravings. He began with an apprenticeship through The Goldsmiths’ Company and studied engraving with RH Wilkins. In 2017 he was awarded the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust scholarship and travelled to Japan to study with a variety of Japanese masters under the guidance of Hiroshi Suzuki.
Tomasz Donocik creates unique pieces that blur the boundaries between art and jewellery. Born in Poland and raised in Austria, Tomasz now lives and works in London where he founded his eponymous brand in 2008.
