If Jewels Could Talk with Dr Dora Thornton and Emefa Cole

Celebrated British jewellery journalist Carol Woolton’s podcast, If Jewels Could Talk, welcomes enlightening discussions around the history, stories and mysticism of the jewellery world. In this week’s episode Dr Dora Thornton and Emefa Cole sit down with Carol to discuss the upcoming exhibition 40 years, 40 makers, and the process behind having a piece commissioned by the Goldsmiths’ Company Collection.

Goldsmiths’ Company Curator Dr Dora Thornton has curated the exhibition, 40 years, 40 makers, which will be displayed during Goldsmiths’ Fair. Revealing some of the most treasured and innovated designs and techniques over the last forty decades, 40 years, 40 makers, is an exploration of some of the most outstanding jewellery and silver works that have been formed since 1983.

Recently appointed as Curator for Diaspora Jewellery at the V&A, Emefa Cole is a goldsmith who uses the technique of wax carving to create her sublime and explosive designs. Training with the Asantehene’s personal goldsmith in Ghana, Emefa has developed a cross-cultural practice that takes its form from the overwhelming forces of nature. Emefa is exhibiting in Week One of this year’s Fair.
