About Yvonne Gilhooly
Unique. Original. Covetable. Collectable.
Yvonne’s practice is a celebration of geometry in all its poetic forms.
Using traditional goldsmithing skills she creates sculptural pieces both as adornment and as stand alone objects.
Her fascination with line, form, volume and the void is where she begins, exploring both tension and harmony, absence and presence.
Her practice is meditative, process is key.
Her intention is to create thought provoking pieces which invite the viewer to experience a moment of personal connection.
It is easy to underestimate the significance of the space between things, how pieces relate to one another and the void contained within.
This quiet body of work considers line, volume and essentially the construction of the space in between to allow a dialogue between those forms. Most important is this expression of creativity, the essence of self that is evident within each piece, the mark of the hand, this poetry of material things.
Yvonne’s practice is detailed, absorbing, a slow engagement using traditional hand tools and precious materials to create jewels which resonate with the wearer. Piercing saw, a plethora of files, dividers, vernier guage, the alchemy of fire and metal…
Finally, the relationship between the wearer and the jewellery is an essential component, completing the process.
