Yvonne Gilhooly

About Yvonne Gilhooly

Yvonne’s practise is an exploration of geometry in all its poetic forms.

Designing with purpose and restraint, whilst seeking to represent the essence of each piece, she begins with the consideration of line, volume and essentially the construction of the space in between, to create a dialogue between those forms in a harmonious interaction of light, space and materiality.

Using traditional processes and hand tools, Yvonne’s work is detailed, absorbing, meditative.

Piercing saw, wax carving, a plethora of files, dividers, vernier gauge, the alchemy of fire and metal…all allow a slow engagement with precious materials to create thought provoking pieces which resonate with the wearer.

Yvonne’s commitment to using ethically sourced gemstones and recycled materials is of paramount importance, as is her hallmark, an assurance of the quality much appreciated by her clients.

It is easy to underestimate the significance of the space between things, how pieces relate to one another and the void contained within.
This quiet body of work considers line, volume and essentially the construction of the space in between to allow a dialogue between those forms. Most important is this expression of creativity, the essence of self that is evident within each piece, the mark of the hand, this poetry of material things.

Finally, the relationship between the wearer and the jewellery is an essential component, completing the process.
