Louise O’Neill

About Louise O'Neill
Working close to the London jewellery hub that is Hatton Garden, Louise’s pieces are almost exclusively one-offs.
She works in high carat coloured gold, enjoying the unique qualities of the material. She enjoys the way it takes a matt texture so soft and subtle and contrasts so beautifully against a fine bright burnished detail, to perfection.
Observed pattern and shape inform Louise’s work and she is fascinated by the juxtaposition of repeat elements in differing scales, or materials. She photographs, draws, arranges and rearranges shapes to explore visual rhythms.

Louise O’Neill

Inspiration is drawn from the natural and built environment, she photographs, draws then makes paper elements that she arranges and rearranges to give the notion of haphazard random pattern.
She wants there to be a suggestion of movement within her designs.
Louise points out that it can be quite testing to make a pattern look spontaneous and natural when in fact it is carefully considered and arranged. Enjoying using different colours of gold she has started to alloy her own colours and to make colour graduations from one to another.
