Karen Westland’s silverware and jewellery is recognised for their sensual, decorative surfaces and responsibly sourced materials.
With a design-led approach, Karen employs a range of traditional techniques to express their ideas exploring our interconnections with the universe. Drawing on their Scottish heritage and doctoral research embedded within the physical sciences, diverse narratives are interwoven when forming each object. Having been in business for over a decade, Karen continues to challenge themselves and seek out new ideas through their research to translate into silver and gold.

Karen graduated from the silversmithing and jewellery course at The Glasgow School of Art before completing the Bishopsland fellowship in traditional silversmithing. Their PhD research combined applied physics and responsible craft practices, which continue to be central to their work. Karen firmly believes in skill and knowledge transfer, and continually learns from master craftspeople and reciprocates through volunteer work within the creative industries.
A Fairmined licensee, team member for Fair Luxury and Director and Honorary Treasurer for the Association for Contemporary Jewellery, advocacy, education and being connected to a creative network drive Karen’s creative practice.
