Jean Scott-Moncrieff

About Jean Scott-Moncrieff
I originally trained as a graphic designer but attended a jewellery evening class and never looked back – I have been making jewellery for over 40 years. I use traditional hand tools and techniques; piercing, drilling, planishing, alloying and forging high carat gold and silver, embellished with gemstones, cabochons, beads and pearls. The gemstones are meticulously selected – the flaws and inclusions add to the unique properties of each stone. Every piece is made by me in my Sussex studio – finished using very fine emery papers resulting in a lustrous matt surface, with burnished edges.

Jean chooses gemstones for colour and cut; cabochons, old-cuts and rose-cuts are her favourites as they suit the archaeological style of her work, but she believes that some modern brilliant cuts work well too. Jean turns to a gorgeous variety of gemstones, some zingy, some subtle, many with unique inclusions which add to their allure.
