Holly O’Hanlon

About Holly O'Hanlon

Originally from Galway on the west coast of Ireland, Holly moved over to the UK to study on the BA Jewellery course at Central St Martins. Upon graduating, she went on to show her pieces at fairs and exhibitions within the UK and in Europe. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted in her London studio using recycled precious metals and freshwater pearls.

Driven by an interest in process, Holly’s pieces aim to blur the line between fine and contemporary jewellery, offering a new take on the archetypes found within traditional jewellery. The way in which we interact with everyday objects, the skewed associations and feelings that the familiar can evoke is central to her work. Her playful designs explore the flux between creation and destruction, drawing attention to the everyday by framing the unseen. Pearls are an integral focus of Holly’s work. Through various processes such as piercing, slicing and stone grinding, she aims to disrupt the traditional preconceptions of these natural forms. Each pearl is set using a practical, functional element in order to juxtapose their contradictory or opposing values.
