Emmeline Hastings
About Emmeline Hastings
With her roots in art and sculpture, Emmeline combines unexpected and contrasting materials from her Bristol studio. Since 2011 she has been utilising her original techniques of hand carving acrylics and embedding them with metallic elements and stones to create striking and contemporary wearable sculpture.
Her contradictory pieces strive to capture an aliveness that replicates free-flowing and rippling textures. Familiar yet otherworldly, substantial but lightweight, naturalistic but synthetic. Each piece individual but sharing inherent qualities – ephemeral natural forms, surfaces dotted bristling with glittering metallic elements. An unmistakable aesthetic with mysterious patterns of gold and silver seemingly organic to the form.

The birth of each piece stems from an admiration of the natural world, attempting to tell the story of the unique, ethereal, and fleeting quality that nature can possess – whilst in juxtaposition also honouring the archaic and long-lived, weather worn nature of rock formations and natural surfaces.
