Chris Carpenter

About Chris Carpenter
Chris is an accomplished jeweller who, having graduated with a BA, furthered his practical skills in Zurich and Munich. Having developed his characteristic style in these two cities, he returned to the UK to develop his home client base.
Chris has been exhibiting at the Goldsmiths’ Fair for 20 years, where a multitude of clients have bought pieces from him.
Seeking inspiration from architecture, sculptures and more obscure sources his imagination is always stimulated and the results are his enticing pieces of jewellery. He has more recently developed an interest in using the computer as a tool for his designs, which results in a new broader spectrum of work.

Chris’s design process often begins with a sculpture. He works with card and paper to develop his concepts and has amassed an extensive resource of intricate shapes for inspiration.
He works in silver, gold, gilding metal and recently, very thin, mild steel which is very light, enabling larger pieces to be made.
Each metal has a different quality, which affects the ease, or difficulty, of working with it: the luxurious softness of precious 22ct gold, and the awkward stubbornness of steel.
Chris also uses an array of precious gem stones in his work. His favourites include: tourmaline, quartz and rose cut diamonds.
