Cathy Timbrell
About Cathy Timbrell
Although Cathy trained and worked as a scientist, she has always created objects in metal. Her scientific practice has influenced the way her work has developed with several very different collections over the years. Her most recent work has focussed on both the traditional and experimental use of enamel to produce bold and colourful pieces, both jewellery and vessels, with subtle references to hidden images. She has exhibited both in the UK and internationally and recently received GCDC awards for her enamel and enamel design.

Cathy works using traditional techniques but designs intuitively with a number of potential pieces in progress at any one time. Often she is working with a selection of enamelled shapes, both on copper and silver, with small paper models, textures and stones until the final design is arrived at. There is usually a story behind the piece, or, it might be that the shapes together make a pleasing, simple design. By experimenting, one design will lead to another.
