About Hamish Dobbie
Born and raised in London, Hamish lives and works in Glasgow now, his practice honed in the Scottish countryside. He is his happiest on a mountain with a dram.
Hamish has been a practising silversmith for the last eight years since graduating from the Glasgow School of Art. In this time, his work has been acquired by The National Museum of Scotland, The Pearson Collection as well as The Goldsmiths’ Company. He has exhibited internationally and across the UK. This will be his seventh year exhibiting at Goldsmiths’ Fair.

The concept behind this collection of work is the influence of texture and colour on the drinking and dining experience.
Drinking vessels are of particular interest to Hamish as the need to hold the vessel and to bring it to the mouth to use it creates a particularly intimate interaction between the user and the object, foregrounding the texture and colour of the object.
In this collection, he has used a range of traditional silversmithing techniques, including chasing, engraving and precious metal plating, to create objects inspired by the natural landscape of Scotland that demand to be held and enjoyed.
