In conversation with gallerists Adrian Sassoon, Kathleen Slater and designer Rabih Hage. As the worlds of art, craft and design increasingly overlap, collectible design has become central to contemporary interiors. This panel explores the enduring appeal of exceptional craftsmanship and the evolving relationship between collectors, makers and the spaces they inhabit.
About Adrian Sassoon
Adrian Sassoon has been studying, collecting, curating and selling works of art for 40 years. In the last 30 years he has become the leading UK dealer in contemporary works of art – ceramics, glass, silver, gold, lacquer and hardstone objects. His other professional field is French 18th century works of art: primarily in the French royal porcelain factory of Vincennes and Sèvres.
Adrian has a deep interest in other fields including old master and later paintings, European decorative arts of the 17th and 18th centuries, Asian works of art and 20th century photography. He has worked as the art advisor to various collectors, museums and for superyacht designers and owners.
Adrian is a trustee of The Attingham Trust, which runs courses for museum curators studying historic houses and the Royal Collection, and a member of the International Council of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
Adrian has served two terms as a trustee of the Wallace Collection, London 2008-15; served as trustee of The Silver Trust, London 2013-19, which provided a collection of contemporary British silver for the use of the Prime Minister at Number 10 Downing Street; and on the committees of the patrons groups at the Wallace Collection, Tate Britain and the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge.
About Kathleen Slater
Heading up the London office, Kathleen works closely with clients and our artists. She liaises with museums and institutions, organising special contemporary exhibitions, special catalogues and publications.
About Rabih Hage
Rabih Hage is a RIBA chartered architect and interior designer who divides his time between London, New York and the South of France. His work has been recognised with numerous awards from the design industry, including the Andrew Martin Interior Designer of the Year Award, 2011, the Homes & Gardens Award for Interior Design, 2012, and regular nomination by House & Garden and Architectural Digest (France) as one of the top 100 leading designers over the past two decades.
He has been knighted by the French Republic as a Chevalier dans l’Ordre National du Mérite for his services to design.
Rabih has been a pioneer in many areas. He was a forerunner of the limited edition design movement, and has been working with artists and designer-makers since the early 2000s to create one off or limited edition furniture and artworks for clients and collectors. His pioneering online design think-tank, DeTnk, identified new talents while publishing the Collectable Design Market Report, a highly anticipated analysis of auction house data on this now established market, now available by special commission.
Blending poetry with pragmatism, Rabih Hage Studio has an established record of enhancing investments beyond initial forecasts while at the same time winning design industry awards and plaudits in the press.
