The Grange: our sparkling wine partner

The Grange is an estate with a colourful history that has been resided over by the Baring family for a number of generations. Earlier this century the addition of a 570-seat theatre used for an annual opera festival The Grange Festival has brought greater notoriety to this corner of Hampshire.
In 2011, the four Baring siblings who have lived and grown up on the estate, planted 25 acres of vines in a sheltered field at the southwestern edge of the estate, just east of Winchester.
The vineyard sits in thin gravelly soils overlying several hundred metres of Cretaceous chalk – a geology not dissimilar to the Montagne de Rheims, a range of hill in the Champagne region of France – and The Grange aim is to make sparkling wines that reflect not only the geology of the rolling chalk downland but also the delightful climate of this beautiful corner of southern Hampshire.
It took seven long years from planting to finished product and, much to the siblings’ delight (not to mention relief), the wines they opened in 2018 were delicious, and they and subsequent releases, have since won over 40 awards in international competitions including a 97-point PLATINUM from Decanter in 2022.
In 2024, The Grange were very proud to enter into a partnership with the Goldsmiths’ Company to become the official English sparkling wine of the Company and Goldsmiths’ Fair.
