We spoke to contemporary jeweller, Elizabeth Jane Campbell who is part of the film ‘Excellence Made’ to find out what she’s working on and what it was like to be part of the filming process. The film was made my renowned film maker Petr Krejci, commissioned specially for Goldsmiths’ Fair 2018.
‘I’m based in Edinburgh at the lovely Beaverhall Art Studios where I share a workshop with Kathryn Hinton and Catherine Nuttall. It’s a great space and there’s nothing quite like working with your best friends every day. Being part of ‘Excellence Made’ was a great experience. Petr and his team were great to work with – it was really interesting to see how they work and we had a lot a fun during the filming – especially when I was balancing on the window ledge while Petr filmed enamel falling! In the film I was working a new blue pendant (pictured). The pendant mixes traditional vitreous enamel and cloissone with metal dust – set in oxidised silver to make a simple and bold piece of contemporary jewellery. At this year’s Fair, I will be showing new enamel, new colours, new designs! I’ve been really enjoying mixing enamel techniques to create something quite bold, as well as bringing in more sculptural elements to my work, so there’ll be a really fresh new collection of work to see at Goldsmiths’ Fair!’
