Cockpit Arts Christmas Open Studios

November 10, 2017

Christmas is coming, and Cockpit Arts Open Studios are just around the corner. The Open Studios is the perfect opportunity to buy directly from craftspeople and artist-makers as well as a selected group of Cockpit Arts’ alumni.

A selection of ceramics, homewares, jewellery, shoes, glass and several other crafts will all be on show, along with a Crafts Magazine pop-up stall and food by Hand Made Food Café.

Several regular Goldsmiths’ Fair exhibitors are based at Cockpit Arts including Sarah Herriott, Maya Selway, Yen Duong, Anna Wales and Jo Hayes Ward, Ute Decker, Shona Marsh, Beth Gilmour, Terri Howes, Jacqueline Cullen, Lucy Martin, Mark Nuell, Stepan Terteryan and Adele Brereton.

One of Cockpit’s newest arrivals is goldsmith and several time Fair exhibitor, Mark Nuell. Mark recently joined Cockpit Arts from Craft Central. We asked him a few questions to see how he was settling in.

How did you find Goldsmiths’ Fair?

Goldsmiths’ Fair was very busy with good sales. It was the first time showing a new collection of rings set with gemstones cut in unusual shapes and facets designed by me. These were very well received. I am looking forward to what should be a busy period of follow up sales.

How have you found the transition of studios and moving to shared space?

After a long time at Craft Central in my own studio I thought that moving into a shared space at Cockpit may have been more difficult but I love my new space! I am now already feeling settled at Cockpit. I have had my first business incubation meeting and am anticipating the kind of business support I might not have had access to before. The easy transition has meant that I have been able to get on with making new pieces for upcoming shows.

How has your experience at Cockpit been so far and how do you find the environment?

I have really enjoyed setting up my new studio. I was amazed to find that my bespoke workbenches I had at Craft Central fitted perfectly into my new space! It is a very relaxed environment which makes it easy to approach anyone for help or advice. Betty (my dog) has made herself very welcome and enjoyed meeting everyone at Cockpit too! I am really looking forward to participating in my first Open Studios in a few weeks at Cockpit Arts
