During this time of uncertainty, it will come as no surprise that the Goldsmiths’ Fair team is focusing on how best to overcome the current challenges. First and foremost, it is vital that we all keep safe and well; so, to our makers, our buyers, our stakeholders, suppliers, subscribers, everyone, we’re thinking of you and send our very best wishes.
Our purpose remains the same: Goldsmiths’ Fair has always been a platform for supporting craftspeople and this is what we will continue to do, to the very best of our ability, during this crisis.
The Fair team continues to plan for Goldsmiths’ Fair 2020, just from our kitchen tables! We are moving our communications entirely to digital channels over the course of the crisis, including our flyer and our invitations, so please ensure you are signed up to our newsletter and we have up-to-date contact details for you.
The coming months are going to prove exceptionally difficult for our maker community. As self-employed individuals and small businesses owners, they will be the most vulnerable. We are looking closely at how we can support our maker community during this period.
In the short term we will be promoting our makers and their supporters and customers through our digital channels. The Goldsmiths’ Company has recently launched #GoldsmithsStories on Instagram where we are asking makers to share their stories of what they are making, creating or how they are keeping themselves connected through this unprecedented period. So please follow the @TheGoldsmithsCompany and @GoldsmithsFair and our hashtag #GoldsmithsStories – you can read more below.
These stories, of course, aren’t just about our makers but also all the amazing people who support their art and craft by buying pieces and advocating for fine jewellers and contemporary silversmiths. We would love it if you could share your stories too of pieces you have bought, commissioned and collected from makers exhibiting at Goldsmiths’ Fair over the years. Of course, in times like these, jewellery does not feel like a priority. But remember that this crisis will come to an end, and with the right support, we will all get through it together.
While our artists may have to suspend their businesses in the coming months, our support for them will not stop. Creativity will always be one of the most powerful and inspirational responses to hardship – we need them and their work, now, more than ever.
