About Scarlett Zhang
Scarlett Zhang is a London based jewellery designer and alumna of Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. She established her brand based on the philosophy of questioning preconceived ideas that exist around jewellery. She juxtaposes opposite extremes, portraying conceptual ideas within fine jewellery, crafting delicate works composed of rough individual parts and using precious materials to exhibit casual references to common culture. Her vision puts a new spin on glamour, allowing luxury to be met with modesty.
Scarlett replaces solder with laser welding as her main joining method, connecting individual parts one by one. She creates the contrast of the uneven laser bumps with mirror polishing the metal and hand folding cut metal sheet to imitate diamonds capturing momentary sparkles of non-existent stones. She brings out contradictory feelings of concrete and none, introducing a contradictory elegant yet Brutalist style.
