About Ruth Leslie
Ruth has been designing and making playful, sculptural jewellery since 2015.
Mainly working in a variety of metals including silver, gold and titanium, she creates contemporary pieces that are both inspired by the subtle details within fabrics as well as the structural forms within textile machinery.
As well as creating these sculptural pieces, Ruth produces a range of wearable, precious metal jewellery influenced by other design products such as kitchen and homeware. These designs are simple yet unique, modern and bold.
Each piece is handcrafted in her Edinburgh studio, on the shore in Leith, overlooking the docks and the bustling, lively neighbourhood.
Ruth works mainly in precious metal and titanium wire. She works in a variety of traditional metalworking methods to create frames and structures, and then finely twists individual wires using an old fashioned drill. These wires are then wrapped around the frames to create tactile, refined forms – like dangling architecture.
All designs are handcrafted in Edinburgh, Scotland by Ruth with each part of the process done by hand or using small-scale traditional machinery. Due to this, most items are made to order and can be made to varying specifications.
