About Marissa Ziesing
Australian born gold and silversmith, Marissa Ziesing, graduated with a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Jewellery & Metal) from the University of South Australia (Harry P. Gill Medal and University Medal) and Diploma (Jewellery & Object Design) from Enmore Design Centre, Sydney.
Marissa has undertaken residencies and mentorships in Australia, USA and UK, training under renowned gold and silversmiths. She has been the recipient of various grants and awards. These include The Helpmann Academy Fellowship and Arts South Australia’s Project Grant for ‘Bishopsland Retrospective Exhibition’ in the UK where she was awarded ‘Arts Society Award’ and gained recognition, exhibiting at The Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, London’s The Goldsmiths’ Company and Netherland’s Zilver Museum.
Her work is shown regularly across Australia, the UK and Europe. Maintaining the lineage of the craft of gold and silversmithing is a strong motivation of her practice.
Marissa’s work focuses on craftsmanship and function in jewellery and objects that explore the discourse of the human relationship with form, underpinned by her Australian upbringing. Her approach further investigates the dialogue that occurs between the maker and the material. The soft geometric forms reflect elements of urban landscapes along with subtle textures, colours and finishes, emphasizing the beauty of the objects, material and rawness of the natural environment.
