About Hidemi Asano
Hidemi was born in Osaka and grew up in Hyogo. As a student in Japan, she studied an English Literature degree. In her young life, she also studied the traditional crafts of calligraphy, tea ceremony, flower arranging and porcelain painting. She was very interested in expressing herself through craft. Hyogo is a mountainous area of beauty with hot spring and coasts with four distinctive seasons. This was a great inspiration to her. Hidemi came to the UK with the ambition of learning to be a jewellery maker. She studied at the Guildhall University, formally Sir John Class shcool of Art.
Hedemi aims to harmonise her Japanese origin with her life in the UK. She applies the aesthetic of minimalism to contemporary jewellery. From this, she has developed her style and continually tries to perfect the technical aspects of her work.
Hidemi’s inspiration delivers mainly from nature, which she interprets and transforms into sculptural forms.
Tactile qualities, the softness and strength of forms and feel of the surface are intrinsic to her theme of tranquil movement and a serene moment. She hopes to give calmness and relaxation to the wearer of her jewellery.
