About Gearry Suen
Gearry Suen is a 90s Chinese born jewellery artist based in London, educated at Central Saint Martins and the Royal College of Art. His early years painting and experimental art experiences guide his creativity toward an exceptionally bold style of 21st-century jewellery. Gearry’s jewellery is deeply imaginative, an escape from reality. Gearry was the overall winner in Theo Fennell’s Gilded Youth awards.
Gearry learned to observe Mother Nature in a subjective way, which inspires him to create surrealistic forms and structures. He is passionate about imposing that surrealism onto real objects, by incorporating emotional expressions in his pieces through movement and a sense of shock. With or without bodily interaction, Gearry’s works are always a piece of art.
Introducing Gearry Suen
Gearry’s passion is to explore the relationship between innovation and technology on one side, and traditional craftsmanship on the other. By studying historical best practices from jewellery craftsmanship and merging this with new advances in technology.
Visual art, photography and fine art all provide opportunities for Gearry’s creative process. His strict selection of gemstones and precious metals are based on playful drawing skills and mural restoration methods. Gearry uses techniques at the forefront of jewellery, such as master jade/gem carving, and materials like titanium. His passion is to be incisive and vivid to create “one of a kind” pieces.
