Charlotte Tollyfield

About Charlotte Tollyfield

Charlotte is a Sheffield based silversmith designing and creating work for exhibition and sale as well as producing pieces to commission. Through lockdown in 2020 she created the Barber Emeritus Goblets for the Worshipful Company of Barbers, and in 2018 produced the Winner’s Trophy Centre for the St. Leger Stakes horse race at Doncaster. Her design ethos centres on purity of form and a largely minimalist aesthetic, occasionally interrupted by hard woods with distinctive grain structures. However, she is also fascinated by the symmetry and repetition of pattern and motifs which some of her commissions have allowed her to explore.

Maker Enquiry Form

A fascination with geometric shapes and symmetry has been evident in Charlotte’s work throughout her creative career. In recent years this had focused on angular, sometimes fractal forms and faceted surfaces, but through recent skills training opportunities in raising, sinking and forging, she has begun to return to softer, more curvilinear forms and to investigate the purpose of the handle in both a functional and aesthetic role.
