What is #GoldsmithsStories?
#GoldsmithsStories is a new Instagram campaign by @TheGoldsmithsCompany designed to keep our maker community better connected during the national shutdown. We’re asking people to share their jewellery collections with us and tell us the story behind some of the pieces. Our aim is to not just share interesting stories about jewellery and silver, but to grow a community of buyers and help connect them to our community of makers.
How do I take part?
The theme of Goldsmiths’ Fair 2019 was ‘The Art of Collecting’, focusing on five collectors of contemporary jewellery and silver. Their stories gave an insight into what has inspired and influenced their collecting habit. The collections demonstrate a human concern and interest in craftsmanship; a connection to the maker of the work.
We now want to hear your stories about your jewellery or silver, no matter how big or small they may be. Use the hashtag #GoldsmithsStories in your post or email them into us here.
Now is a good time to reflect on the pieces you have collected over time and what they mean to you. For example, see Janice Hosegood’s post below where she picks out a favourite purchase:
“I’m taking time to appreciate some of the treasures I’ve been lucky enough to acquire over the past few years. Always spoilt for choice @goldsmithsfair of course, but this stunner by @ninabukvic.jewellery is one of my favourites.”
Your collection or favourite piece doesn’t have to be the most expensive or fashionable, what matters is the story. If you know who the individual makers are, even better! Please do remember to name or tag them in your post.
