About Laura Ngyou

Laura’s experimental way of working was nurtured at Middlesex university, where she  studied Applied Arts followed by a residency at Bishopsland Educational Trust in 2012. Since then Laura’s most notable accolades include receiving a bursary from the Goldsmiths’ Company, accepting an award for jewellery design from Jacqueline Mina OBE and exhibiting a dish at the V&A museum for their ‘Inspired by the Archives’ silver showcase.

I currently work from my studio at Cockpit Arts, where I create one of a kind pieces and limited edition ranges. It’s truly an honour to be taking part in my second Goldsmiths’ Fair.

Maker Enquiry Form

Laura’s jewellery reflects a fascination for miniature worlds found within the natural landscape; from exotic jungle flora to the humble rockpool. Her obsession with geology drives her to select the most interesting and unusual specimens in uncut and polished gemstones.

Composing unique settings for these using multiple elements – they are the results of experiments in melting and manipulating metal. Molten gold and silver is poured onto pine needles and grasses – negative spaces and striated textures forming as the metal burns through the organic matter. Metal is twisted, rolled and folded to create re-imagined natural landscapes sympathetic to a gemstone’s individual character.
