Tina Engell

About Tina Engell

Tina is an established Danish goldsmith based in Bath, where she designs and makes precious jewellery by hand.

Having completed a four-year goldsmith apprenticeship at Ole Lynggard, Copenhagen, she graduated with a Masters in Jewellery Design at London’s Royal College of Art in 1992.

On receiving the Craft Council’s setting up grant, Tina started work on a range of designs as a permanent collection which she constantly updates and adds to.

Owing to her background, the strength of Tina’s work is simplicity and boldness, allowing the stones to dominate. Every stone, colour and cut is unique in each piece.

Rather than drawing or working with wax, Tina prefers to work directly with the metal – shaping and filing until she gets it right. Often buying a stone before she has an idea of how she’ll use it, she’ll create a bespoke piece around the unique features of the particular stone. She wonders if this is the most productive method, but having been traditionally trained she loves to get straight into the making and seeing where the process takes her.
