GEM X – Giovanni Corvaja: a goldsmith in his Umbrian atelier

GemX x Goldsmiths’ Fair, this new partnership exclusive for Goldsmiths’ Fair 2020, will take you deep into the Umbrian hills and into Corvaja’s atelier in Todi, where you will receive a behind the scenes tour from the artist himself, and be able to view his exquisite pieces made from the finest gold wire.

Gem X is a private social club for jewellery enthusiasts. It was founded in New York City in 2017, and has expanded to become a global community of friends, mentors and collaborators. Gem X started from a desire to experience and understand the stories behind the jewels. While working on their gemology degrees at GIA, Lin Jamison and Heidi Kreamer-Garnett followed their passion beyond the classroom. They found few events geared towards young connoisseurs, so they began planning their own jewellery adventures.

Giovanni Corvaja has been exhibiting his work internationally since 1989, and has presented his pieces in more than 150 solo and group exhibitions worldwide. Some of his annual exhibitions are in major art fairs such as The European Fine Art Fair, Pavilion of Art and Design, London, Masterpiece, London and COLLECT since 2008.

Corvaja is renowned as the creator of the mythical Golden Fleece Collection, a series of five unique pieces made from hand-spun golden fur. The first public presentation of the collection took place in spring 2009 in Munich, Germany, at the International Trade Fair, in the fame of a special exhibition, Modern Masters. The epical collection has been followed by the Golden Handkerchief, a piece made from hand-woven golden fabric.
